Book III

Introduction

Book III will be a set of mini-campaigns played over 4-6 sessions on Wednesday evenings from 7-10(ish) p.m. Eastern Standard Time on the Potomac Empire Discord. Each story will be a self-contained adventure with different Player Characters exploring a pivotal period in Cainite history. Each Story will have four Player Characters. The players from one Story may well not be the same players in the next story. Spectators are welcome, so be comfortable with that if you wish to play. These stories are somewhat connected though take place over vast swaths of time and are canonical with the wider Potomac Empire Chronicle. Experienced players are encouraged to apply, as this will be a somewhat unconventional Vampire: the Masquerade game, exploring settings of ancient history and prehistory with god-like creatures.

Stories

Story 1: The Punic Wars — Rome (218-201 B.C.)

This Story will focus on the glimmering Eternal Senate in Rome and the murky Undercity and catacombs below. Methuselahs and their childer flock to the city to leech off of the growing population and thriving civilization and to plot against one another. Players may choose from the following Clans for their prospective character in order of most to least important to the story (and more than one player of the same Clan is perfectly fine): Ventrue, Malkavian, Toreador, Nosferatu, Lasombra and Cappadocian. Alternate characters of the following are acceptable, though they will have no Clan support structure: Salubri and Ravnos. I will consider other Bloodlines on a case-by-case basis, but there will no Brujah or Baali whatsoever. Characters will start the game as sixth generation Caininte ancillae: among the “youngest.”

Story 2: The Punic Wars — Carthage (149-146 B.C.)

This Story will focus on the decadent final years of the Carthaginian experiment. The Brujah believe that they have built the Third City and walk openly as gods again. Whispering in their ear are the Baali. The jealous Roman Ventrue and Malkavians threaten all that they have built, and so they must fight to save their sacred achievement. Players may choose from the following Clans for the prospective character in order of most to least important to the story (and more than one player of the same Clan is perfectly fine): Brujah, Baali, Toreador, Nosferatu, Assamite. Alternate characters of the following are acceptable, though they will have no Clan support structure: Ravnos, Settites and Cappadocians. Other Bloodlines, Clans and other creatures of the night are to be considered on a case-by-case basis, but no Malkavians or Ventrue whatsoever. Characters will start the game as fifth generation Cainite elders. [TW: this Story will deal with child sacrifice as a topic. If that is not a topic with which you wish to engage, this might not be the Story for you.]

Story 3: The Empire of Sutekh (30 B.C.)

This Story focuses upon the Setite control of Egypt as they are hounded by the forces of Osiris, the Assamites and the invading Roman Ventrue/Malkavian alliance. All Players will be Followers of Set and will start the game as sixth generation vampires.

Story 4: House and Clan Tremere (1121-1133 A.D.)

This Story focuses on the early years of the Clan Tremere at the mighty Chantry of Ceoris in Transylvania, their war with theTzimisce, the birth of the Gargoyles and their diablerie of Saulot. All Players will be Mages of the House of Tremere who became vampires of the sixth generation.

Story 5: Constantinople by Night (1197 A.D.)

This Story will be played as the closest thing that I’ll ever do to a module, only because the old White Wolf book is fan-frickin-tastic. Almost any Clan is playable (obviously, only Clans that exist at the time, so no Giovanni, but you get the idea), but Toreador, Tzimisce, Ventrue and Nosferatu are prioritized. Characters will start the game as sixth generation Cainite ancillae.

Story 6: The Anarch Revolt (1413 A.D.)

Lugoj leads his forces against the Eldest to claim freedom for his people in the founding of what will one night soon become the Sabbat. Players are encouraged to be Tzimisce, but could also be Gangrel or Nosferatu and will be of the seventh generation.

Story 7: The Conspiracy of Isaac (1444)

This Story will be my own take on the Giovanni Chronicles . . . though I will be taking liberties. The foundations of Clan Giovanni begin with the diablerie of Ashur-called-Cappadocius. A conspiracy is afoot and the characters are in the thick of it. Players may be of any clan except Cappadocian or Salubri and will begin the game as mortals, but will quickly become seventh generation vampires.

Story 8: The Gargoyle Revolt (1448)

This Story will focus upon the Gargoyle Revolt and destruction of the Ceoris Chantry. This is the birth of the Gargoyles as an independent bloodline. All characters will play as some form of Gargoyle.

Story 9: The Convention of Thorns (1493)

This Story is about the crazed nights at the foundations of both the Camarilla and Sabbat. Players may choose any clan/bloodline in existence and will start of the game at the seventh generation.

Story 10: The Tainted Earth (1680-1690 A.D.)

This Story will be a Tzimisce Revenant story, so not exactly V:tM, but more a game of Ghouls: Fatal Addiction. No Clans are acceptable: all are Ghouls from Revenant families who serve a Hungarian Voivode going to war with the Arpad Ventrue.

Story 11: London by Gaslight (1870-1890)

This Victorian Age Vampire Story explores the world of the Kindred among the gaslight-lit streets of London, choked by industrial fog. Nearly any Clan/Bloodline is acceptable with one caveat: no Tremere. All characters will start off at the ninth generation.

Story 12: The Brujah Council of Russia (1915-1990)

This Story recounts the events of the Russian Revolution with the Brujah Council’s violent takeover and great hope of the first Anarch Free State, to its ultimate failure. The adventure will bookend the period with horrific deaths at the end at the hands of an all-powerful Methuselah. Players can be Brujah, Gangrel or Nosferatu. All players will start off as ninth generation vampires, though will likely get their fangs dirty with Diablerie during the Revolution. Prepare for a Dark Fate as all will meet a violent end.

Story 13: Enosh-called-Gomorrah and Sha’adom [what today is known as Enoch] (Prehistory)

This Story is the longest, will be split into two locales and is saved for last. The story will document the fall of the Second City. Players may choose characters of any Clan in existence at the time and will be of the (first) fifth generation. Most will have a Dark Fate.

To Play

Make a ranked choice list of the game(s) you would like to play in and send it to me at PotomacVampire@gmail.com or DM me on Discord. I will link up players based upon interest in different stories. Things may change over time, as some will drop out or move on to other things or the scheduling might not work out by the time that particular story comes along, so we’ll all be flexible about that and keep other players in mind. I will try to give preferential treatment to folks who have expressed interest in playing Potomac Empire with us before but have not yet had a slot. However, with all of these games coming up, I am sure that everyone who wants to will get at least one or two games they will truly enjoy. For ease of Storytelling and to give each player a chance to really shine, each Story will be limited to 4 PCs. Prerequisites for character creation are in the descriptions above.
